THE DIFFICULT CUBE

The Difficult Cube explores the disciplinary potential of transforming a rectangular volume into a Cartesian cube. Using packaged commercial food boxes as a primitive geometric foundation, rigorous technique was enacted on the boxes to distort and reconfigure their structure. These techniques caused The Difficult Cube to fold in on itself, with the goal of reaching a performative cube approximation, but with distinct difficulty.

In the final stage, material complexities were substituted for the standard commercial cardboard. By executing a deranged ‘shotgun marriage’ between the cube-like box form and our material construction studies, an ambiguous architectural artifact was introduced, or The Difficult Cube. Fall 2022.
